King Arthur II Demo for Windows
Paradox Interactive
The Role-Playing Wargame
There's always a problem. Even after assembling the Knights of the Roundtable and saving Britannia from imminent doom, the threats to King Arthur have only just begun. King Arthur 2 is a sequel to last year's RTS and RPG hybrid and it will take an even stronger turn into the realm of fantasy. The story begins with a menacing witch upsetting the order of Britannia by smashing the Holy Grail and then trying to assassinate Arthur. As it's said, when Arthur suffers the whole realm suffers. All of which means cloudy black gates to the underworld have opened up and a rancorous army of goblinesque creatures swarm the country. King Arthur 2 will have a campaign map twice as big as the original, now including a wasteland region and areas in the far north of Britannia. The original game had a mix of regular units and special hero characters that were extra powerful. King Arthur 2 is expanding the concept by introducing a new class of hero even more powerful than the standard heroes. Morgana le Fay will be one of the central characters in this new hero class, the sorceress who eventually turned against Guineverre and the Knights of the Roundtable. Morgana will have access to even more powerful forms of attack and defense magic than other heroes. Neocore has also added new unit types to increase the tactical scenarios in battle, and the leveling tree for each unit has been revised to make the combat more balanced. They also wanted to address some specific complaints from the first game. The team grew from 20 to almost 30 people for the sequel and so they were able to assign more programmers to fixing unit pathfinding. The team also spent a lot of time revising the battle camera, which sometimes made it hard to follow the action in the original. The new camera is completely customizable and the default setting has a slightly adjusted angle of view to make battles easier to follow. The morality system will also be expanded from the original. Each choice you make will give you points in a good and evil category, the proportion of which will determine the moral category you're given. Each moral category has its own unique units, spells, and bonuses to unlock. The magic system has likewise been adjusted to give players a better chance to prepare defense or counterattack. King Arthur 2 will alert players when a powerful magic spell is about to be cast somewhere on the battlefield. You'll then have a few seconds to prepare the vulnerable units with a defense bonus or counter spell. Because of the monstrous new direction of the enemies Neocore has added several new enemy types as well. Flying enemies will be in the game who can move freely around environmental obstacles and add require a tactical planning for ground and air combat. There will also be boss fights against giant, beastly creatures from the netherworld that will require lots of heavy attack power and endurance to take down. There'll also be a Quest system where players can learn more about the characters and story by accepting short text adventure style missions.
